Learn to Sail Week for Single Travellers

Posted: 20th December 2016

Learn to Sail week with BeyondBeach offers single travellers the opportunity to make new friends and acquire some yachting skills in the process. With more people across the UK choosing to travel alone – 34% of men and 24% of women – now has never been a better time to book your trip!

While the idea of taking a solo trip may seem daunting, rest assured that single travellers make up a substantial portion of our sailing holiday clientele – all of which have provided excellent feedback on their adventures.

Sailing holidays are perfect for solo and single adventurers – and the Greek island of Kefalonia provides a perfect setting on which to explore and socialise. With an experienced skipper at the helm, you can learn the ropes with ease and confidence whilst interacting with your new crew mates.

The journey

On the day of your arrival on the Single Travellers Learn to Sail week, you will be transferred from the airport to our base where you will meet our wonderful team. You will then have the rest of the day to relax and mooch around the island.

On the second day, we will commence training and your instructor will tell you everything you need to know about sailing. For the next six days, we will be sailing around the beautiful crystal waters of the Greek islands, while you refine your yachting skills, spend time with your wonderful crew mates and enjoy some fine food and drink in the warm summer evenings.

On the last day, many of our guests stay for a second week to enjoy Kefalonia. There’s plenty to do on the island if you fancy sticking about to enjoy the gorgeous weather.

Lucy’s Learn to Sail Week

Lucy Swash, who takes care of the BeyondBeach office in the UK, embarked on a Single Travellers sailing week this summer. Here, she provides some insight into her experiences…

“I was lucky enough to join one of the Single Traveller Learn to Sail Weeks last June and can’t recommend it enough to anyone who is looking to learn to sail a small yacht. I had no experience at all (literally) and arrived feeling pretty nervous at what lay ahead for the week.

There were four of us on the course for the week and I must say that my fellow Single Travellers were all lovely – a mix of ages from all over the UK, but there to do the same thing: Learn to sail.

We all got on really well and actually ended up meeting for drinks and dinner most evenings. Three of us had chosen the live ashore option at a lovely relaxed hotel just up the road from the Marina and the other guy thoroughly enjoyed his week staying on board the boat

Our instructor was fantastic, making us feel relaxed and built up our confidence and knowledge over the week.

Overall the tuition was excellent, very clear and relayed in a relaxed easy to learn ways and we all came away feeling as if we had learnt a huge amount and confident enough to sail a yacht, which was just amazing and exactly what we were all looking for.”
