A world class sailing area

As a sailing holiday destination, Greece is quick and easy to get to, with a reasonable flight time of 3 hours from the UK and many regional departure airport options direct to the Greek islands and mainland. Our yacht sailing holidays take place in the Ionian Islands of Greece, from the island of Kefalonia.

Our dinghy sailing holidays are based at our two beach clubs, Lixouri Bay in Kefalonia, and Stira Bay in Evia.

Greece is undoubtedly one of the best sailing holiday and yacht cruising destinations in the world.

Easy itineraries and the sheltered waters of the southern Ionian islands of Greece are the perfect destination for yacht sailors looking for a more relaxed sailing holiday. The distance between one port and the next is never more than a few miles, and there’s always a sheltered anchorage en route for a spot of lunch and dip in the sea. We sail mainly around Kefalonia, a beautiful island with some wonderful beaches and coastline. Perfect sea breezes, crystal clear waters and stunning scenery make this island an ideal sailing spot and the perfect base to explore Ithaka, Lefkada, Kalamos, Kastos and Meganissi. They are all incredibly beautiful islands – not mega-marinas, but quaint Greek fishing harbours that are full of character.

About Greece and the Ionian islands

Sailing enthusiast’s have been visiting Greece and the Ionian islands for many years, and it’s easy to see why. Fair winds, traditional harbours, pristine sandy beaches, ancient ruins from Byzantine and Roman times, friendly local taverns, and a strong tradition of hospitality. Plus, this is where the ‘Mediterranean Diet’ was born, so you can bet the Greek food is seriously tasty. Picture fresh seafood, seasonal veggies, all cooked up with a good dose of Greek olive oil.

The scenery is something else – endless clean beaches, clear waters, rugged mountains, green valleys, and forests. There’s loads to do, especially if you’re into water sports and adventure. And the weather is great all year round. While Greece is famous for its perfect summers, it’s a good call any time, especially in the quieter months of April to June or September to October when prices and weather are both excellent.

Brief history

Archaeological finds in different areas of Kefalonia gave evidence that the island was inhabited since 10,000 BC. Like much of Greece, Kefalonia has had a turbulent history. It is firmly embedded in Greek Mythology, with many scholars arguing that Kefalonia was the true home of the famed hero, Odysseus. The island was also occupied by the Byzantines, Turks, Venetians, British, and the Ottomans before it became a Greek state in 1864. During World War II, Kefalonia was occupied by the Axis powers, primarily Italy.

If you’ve not read it, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin is a beautiful wartime story set on the island.

Experiencing Greek culture along the aay

Embrace the vibrant Greek culture during your sailing adventure. Each island holds unique traditions, local festivals, and folklore, providing a rich tapestry of experiences that combine to form an unforgettable journey.

For the history enthusiasts, Greek maritime adventures offer a unique blend of exploration and education. Marvel at ancient ruins, dive to underwater archaeological sites, and absorb the myths and legends that have shaped Greek civilization for millennia.

Participating in local festivals and traditions

Submerge yourself in authenticity by setting sail towards Greece’s famed local festivals and traditions. These vibrant events brimming with colour and spirit allow you to witness Greek culture first hand, right from your yacht.
