Will there be snow ?

YES – It’s a snow-sure ski area up to 3300m with 250km of runs for all abilities. The large nearby gondola (200 yards from the chalet) whisks you quickly up to 2800m in comfort (sitting, not standing). It’s a vast interconnected ski area with the potential to ski all the way back down to Vaujany village.

Where is the chalet?

Our chalet is located 200 yards from the main ski lift and only a short stroll into the village with all its amenities (restaurant, bars, shops, bakery etc.).

Ski lessons?

You’ll be surprised by the range of lesson options available.  Vaujany is blessed with its very own branch of the ESF – l’Ecole du Ski Français (French Ski School), teaching all levels and ages out of Vaujany for more than 25 years. The groups meet in the morning at the Vaujany lift station and are then taken up, up and away into the snowy mountains for their lesson. There is a drop-off and pick-up on the slopes facility for both morning and afternoon lessons.

ALL LESSONS MUST BE BOOKED DIRECTLY WITH THE SKI SCHOOL

Ski hire ?

It couldn’t be more convenient; it is quick and easy, plus as a BeyondBeach guest you have great discounted prices with Ride4Life & Atou Sport, our hire partners offer 30% reduction (in shop). They are part of Sport 2000 and Skimium. Both shops are conveniently next to the lift station so it couldn’t be easier.

All ski hire shops in Vaujany have experienced, English speaking staff and an excellent range of both boards and skis.

The shops recommend sorting hire in resort and not pre-booking online.

Non-Ski Activities

We know that skiing and snowboarding isn’t for everyone or perhaps you just want a day off from the mountain. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied for the whole week!

Alpine walks

As a great day out for the non-skier we can recommend Vaujany’s very own expert snow shoe guide. Beautiful mountain scenery awaits at a pace more likely to conjure up sightings of chamois and chevreuils. Whether you are beginner or a regular hiker, he will adapt to your needs for an unforgettable experience.

Each day is a different itinerary! Night walks also possible.

Cross Country Skiing

Easy to learn and great exercise, this form of skiing can be taken as slow or fast as you like – the trails are mostly flat so your speed depends on how energetic you want to be!

There are around 50km of cross-country skiing routes in Alpe d’Huez which are groomed for the classic (in parallel ruts) or skating style. These are made up of a track called the Brandes Loop (near the altiport) which is considered the easiest, a blue 10km loop called the Poutran and a red 20km track known as the Loop of the Lakes, which is the hardest of them all. You can access these loops if you’re staying in Oz or Vaujany via the ski lifts. Check the cross country skiing map for a view of the trails.

The tranquility of cross country (also known as Nordic) skiing is perfect for anyone who enjoys peace and quiet, or finds the downhill pistes too crowded or too steep. It is a great form of aerobic exercise and one can be as energetic or slow as you like, while the relaxed pace makes it a more tranquil way to enjoy the surroundings!

Dog Sledging

Fancy seeing the mountain scenery but not on those slippery planks called skis/snowboard? Alpe d’Huez offers the beautiful and relaxing Nordic adventure with a team of huskies. The routes taken consist of pedestrian trekking areas and look out points, you will be instructed on how to command the dogs with specific words such as the classic ‘Mush’!

You have the choice of sitting down in the sled or being at the helm, be warned though you must hold on tight! This is a very popular non skiing activity so please book at least 48hours in advance.

30-50€ for adults and 20-40€ for children.

M. Michale Mesas (Second Souffle in Alpe d’Huez)

Leisure Centre

Take advantage of the view and activities at L’Espace Loisirs (Sports and Leisure Complex) a facility that allows you to stay in shape and to recuperate. It is a great place to unwind after the day on the slopes and it will keep the kids (and adults) entertained until dinner! Facilities include :

  • 25m swimming pool
  • Paddle pool
  • Water slide
  • Sauna
  • Spa
  • Jacuzzi
  • Hammam
  • Gym
  • Health centre
  • Indoor courts such as basketball
  • Ice Skating Rink
