All of our training takes place in Lixouri, on the idyllic island of Kefalonia, Greece. Kefalonia is a small island with the perfect balance of watersports, culture and entertainment. A career in watesports is a fantastic way to meet new people, see the world, experience new cultures and continually develop new skills.
Our BeyondBeach academy offers a range of instructor training courses at highly competitive prices. Transfers, hotel accommodation and all meals are included in the advertised course price. We offer instructor courses in dinghy sailing, windsurfing and wing-surfing.

About our courses
Our aim is to enable people to pursue employment in watersports with little or no previous experience. That said we also offer shorter courses for those that can already sail or windsurf or wing.
All of our training takes place in Greece. BeyondBeach is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Training centre, which is the UK National Governing Body for sailing and windsurfing. This means you can be assured that our standards of tuition and safety are always exceptionally high.

Living and working in a close-knit team for several weeks at a time brings both rewards and challenges. The positive way in which we encourage these challenges to be dealt with leads to individuals improving both their social awareness and their independence. Students will enjoy being part of a team, a team which succeeds due to each individual’s positive influence within the team.
At the end of their training, students will have the confidence to take on workplace responsibilities and to manage their own work ethic to achieve results to be proud of. Their general confidence will grow as they learn all the skills associated with being responsible for teaching a group of people something new.
After finishing training with us, students will have gained a long list of nationally recognised Watersports Qualifications. These qualifications, coupled with time overseas and some industry experience, can lead to employment in watersports centres all over the world. The HR team at BeyondBeach will actively help with this process. BeyondBeach always reserves some staff vacancies for newly qualified instructors from our courses.
Training takes place 6 days a week, with one day off each week. On days off you can study, sail, windsurf, paddle, relax, sleep or explore!! It’s entirely up to you. Kefalonia Island is beautiful and well worth exploring at some point during your time with us. The staff in resort will be able to recommend places to visit and many will share days off with you.

Overview
This course is open to all over 18’s and involves 3 weeks of skills training prior to the final instructor moderation week. No prior windsurf skills are required, but a commitment to learning is essential. During this 4 week training course students will have 1 day off a week. Training will include some home study.
Our experienced trainers will ensure that the balance of on-land and on-water tuition is just right. They will make all learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Throughout the course, students will learn windsurf skills, instructor skills, safety awareness, radio use, powerboat driving, first aid, safeguarding policies and customer care skills. At the end of this training course students will be qualified RYA Start Windsurf Instructors.

RYA Dinghy Instructor

Overview
This course is open to over 18’s with some previous experience of sailing. The course involves 3 weeks of skills training prior to a final instructor moderation week. An enthusiasm for sailing and a commitment to learning is essential. During this 4 week training course students will have 1 day off a week. Training will include some home study.
Our experienced trainers will ensure that the balance of on-land and on-water tuition is just right. They will make all learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Throughout the course, students will learn sailing skills, instructor skills, safety awareness, radio use, powerboat driving, first aid, safeguarding policies and customer care skills. At the end of this training course students will be qualified RYA Dinghy Sailing Instructors. To join this course students need to have their RYA Adult Level 1 Sailing certificate, or be able to sail to that ability. This means that before joining this course students need to have a basic confidence in rigging, launching, sailing to a goal point and returning to the shore. It also means that students will have a foundation knowledge of wind and weather forecasting.
An RYA Adult Level 1 course is just a 2 day course. It is available at many RYA centres in the UK and overseas. Please note this is not the same as the RYA Youth Stage 1 certificate.

RYA Wing-Surf Instructor
Location – Lixouri Bay beach club Kefalonia, Greece
Available Dates – 20th June to 27th June 2024 & 28th Sept to 5th October 2024

Overview
This course caters for over 18’s with a little experience of sailing, windsurfing or winging. You don’t need to be a high standard, but you do need to have some basic understanding of the wind. If you know the ‘points of sail’ and can happily tack a boat or board, then you’ll enjoy this wing-surf instructor course. The outcome of this course will be an RYA Wing-Surf Instructor qualification whereby you can teach beginners to wing. The minimum skill requirement to join this course is: wind awareness, confidence tacking, and understanding what a gybe is. This course includes 3 or 4 days of course prep (focusing on developing your personal wing-surf skills to a suitable level) followed by a 2 or 3 day instructor moderation.
If you don’t already hold a Powerboat Level 2 licence or a First Aid certificate, you can tag 3 days on to this course to gain these qualifications. Or you can book these short courses at any RYA centre in the UK or overseas. You need these in order to be a wing-instructor. This Wing course can also be combined with one of our Windsurf Instructor courses.

This course caters for over 18’s that can already windsurf to an intermediate level and already have their RYA Start Windsurf Instructor Certificate. Depending on personal ability, the outcome of this course will either be RYA Intermediate Non-planing Instructor or RYA Intermediate Planing Instructor. This course includes 2 days of course prep followed by a 4 day instructor moderation.

FAQ’S
Can we Guarantee you pass the course ?
Our training courses aim to get a 100% pass rate. We carefully structure and plan each step of the journey to suit every individual’s learning style and progression rate. However, we of course cannot guarantee that every student will pass their instructor course first time.
This is not a problem as the RYA system is designed to pro-actively encourage instructors, who struggle during their first moderation week, to develop their skills and become fully qualified at a later date. This means that at the time of moderation the assessor will issue an RYA Action Plan. The action plan is given with specific goals for the student to achieve in order to finalise their instructor qualification.
The Action Plan is designed to help build confidence and skills, in order to regulate standards within the RYA system. Most employers still offer work placements to instructors with an action plan, and then assist the instructor in fulfilling their action plan. We happily employ staff with actions plans. The action plan is created as a support for instructors and should be viewed as an aid to development, not as a critique or a fail.

Our instructor training is designed to encourage young adults to seek new opportunities in life. We do this by not only keeping our standard course prices highly competitive but also by offering subsidised placements for disadvantaged 18 – 24 year olds who cannot afford the standard course price.
For further information on the criteria for subsidiised place please take a look at our information pack. The pack also includes information about obtaining grants and funding to help pay for your course, whether it’s a subsidised course or not.
If you work hard to apply for funding from various places, you will find that it is possible to get help with the course fees. This is because Outdoor Training is proven to be an excellent tool for personal development. Amongst other things, Outdoor Training teaches strong team-building skills, encourages acceptance of responsibility and it intrinsically improves communication abilities. All of which are key life skills which can be transferred to many other workplaces.
